Mind-Body Release is gentle hands-on therapy that
- restores harmony within and between mind and body
- promotes a shift from defensiveness toward receptiveness
- encourages your natural ability to self-correct
using non-verbal listening, physical support, and subtle motion.
When you experience a threat in modern life, usually you can't fight or flee; instead you contract, freeze, and dissociate. Excess tension and restrictions to movement accumulate in your body. MBR helps your nervous system recognize that, at least for now, it's safe for your mind and body to relax and reconnect.
MBR can engage any place in your body that needs attention, without adding to pain or triggering defenses. This makes it more effective with everyone but is crucial for the most sensitive and vulnerable.
First off, you keep your clothes on. Gone are the oils and strokes of Swedish, the pain and intrusiveness of Deep Tissue. While massage focuses on the skin and muscles, Mind‑Body Release works with your mind, nervous system, and every part of your body. With MBR you don't feel like you've had a massage; you just feel more comfortable in your body.
Compared to Reiki and similar practices, Mind-Body Release is more hands-on and a bit more physical. MBR doesn't focus on your energy or use my energy to heal you; it frees restrictions that impede the flow of energy as well as blood, oxygen, nutrients, wastes, and information.
Over a lifetime, restrictions develop in various parts of your body that interfere with proper movement and efficient function. Your mind-body system automatically compensates by shifting the load to parts that are still moving and functioning well.
Restrictions and compensations accumulate, until you’ve used up your capacity to compensate. As you pass this tipping point, subtle dysfunctions become obvious, you experience pain and other symptoms, and may have a diagnosable disease. Suddenly you feel old.
By loosening restrictions, Mind-Body Release helps to slow or reverse this process, which seems to be the inevitable result of aging.
MBR influences your mind and nervous system by way of your body, rather than via words or beliefs. That's why you don't need to believe in or understand MBR to benefit from it.
MBR is compatible with and complements medical treatment, physical therapy, chiropractic, acupuncture, yoga, and meditation. You don't have to forgo any other treatment or practice to get Mind-Body Release.
I'm an MIT graduate who has found human beings and bodies to be much more interesting than computers. I've combined an understanding of the mind-body relationship, health, systems, and physics into a unique healing method.
In Mind-Body Release I apply everything I've learned treating people facing chronic pain and other serious challenges, and from more than 1200 hours of training in manual therapies including
- Myofascial Release (focusing on the fibers that hold the body together)
- Craniosacral Therapy (fluid and structures around the brain and spinal cord)
- Dynamic Manual Interface (mind-body engagement, non‑verbal listening and dialog)
- Lymph Drainage Therapy (elimination of excess fluid and cellular waste)
- Visceral Manipulation (digestive system and other organs)
- Feldenkrais (retraining the brain and body for easier movement)

Unlike conventional massage, with Mind-Body Release you don't disrobe. Wear whatever is comfortable for you. Thick, stiff jeans are not recommended, but I can work with whatever you choose. Also MBR doesn't use oils or lotions, which can be messy and stain clothing.
My standard in-office rate is $120/hour. If I come to you, my standard rate is $150/hour plus a travel charge. First sessions are usually 1.5 hours. Subsequent sessions may be shorter, depending on your needs and wants.
I do this work out of a desire to help people, so I try to make it affordable. Specialized bodywork in Los Angeles is usually $200 to $300/hour.

A Few Client Letters:
Christine M.: It has been such a pleasure being treated by Neil. His practices are subtle and yet incredibly powerful. They truly lead to mind-body healing on a level I had yet to experience.
"I went to see him to help me unwind from an incredibly stressful job situation that was manifesting physically - I was grinding my teeth, full of knots, unable to sleep, and an emotional wreck. After the first session not only did my physical tension improve, but I felt a shift in my emotional energy as well. I was suddenly able to find joy and play in everyday moments. I decided to continue to see him for additional sessions and was blown away as we began to work on releasing the tension in my body that I had been carrying for longer than I could remember - tightness in my jaw, pain in my shoulders, tension in my legs, etc...
"I'm so grateful for each and every session I've had. Neil is a gifted healer. Whether or not you understand how it works doesn't really matter - you will feel the results.
S.M.: As a 49 year-old woman dealing with a spinal cord injury and a host of GI issues that affect me physically and mentally, I feel like I won the lottery when a Google search brought me to Neil.
Before that day I was living with lower back pain, neck pain leading to migraines, overall body tightness. I felt like there was always a lack of oxygen to my joints and tissues. I did yoga and walked regularly, but nothing seemed to help.
After my first treatment I felt relaxed but didn't think much else had come from it. But the next morning I woke up feeling like Gumby. My body AND my mind were completely relaxed. I felt like he'd rearranged my cells somehow...and I moved like I was floating. No pain, no tightness. It was subtle but the feeling lasted over 10 days and only mild tightness returned after. Moving my neck the wrong way wasn't creating migraines. Bending over the wrong way could still result in a shifted pelvis and/or sacrum and pain...but then my body would release on its own, often within a couple of hours.
I'm not sure how he does what he does, but Neil has somehow trained my body to be at its best. It doesn't make sense because it's difficult to feel anything as he works on me – but after a few months with him, all I can say is I'm feeling like a new person.
Jason P.: I've been getting Neil's therapy for going on a year now. In that time I have only had one full-blown migraine, while in years prior I averaged more than ten migraines. I cannot account for this improvement without crediting the Mind-Body Release therapy.
In my experience, MBR not only nearly erases migraines from my life, but also undoes many other issues I used to suffer: knots in my shoulder, stiff neck, numb IT band in my leg. When I hit the gym, I can do so knowing I won't incur more harm than good, because MBR will cancel out any excesses of tension I put into my body.
Karin K.: I first came to Neil when I was in the midst of daily migraine attacks a couple months back. I would go to sleep with a migraine, wake up in the middle of the night because of a migraine, and this went on for about 2-3 weeks. I was at my limit. In desperation I called for body workers / healers / etc. I was looking originally for deep tissue massage, but was open to anything that could work.
Neil was very empathetic, understanding, and kind to my situation. Hearing how in pain I was, he arranged to see me that same day. He communicated that this isn't like a traditional massage - and I was curiously open. Once arrived, during a brief intake I realized my persistent neck, shoulder, and TMJ problems could be contributing to my migraines.
Here's where the magic began! As I'm lying on the massage table, Neil was able to assess and communicate with my body to help it release and relax through subtle movements and manipulation. I came in with a slight migraine and left feeling like jello. I didn't realize how much stress, anxiety, tightness, strain I was carrying until the end of my session. I was the most "stress free" I had felt in my 27 years of life.
That night I had the best sleep of my life. Prior to this, I couldn't sleep a full night for three weeks.
Neil truly is a blessing and healing light in this world. He aims and goes above and beyond to utilize his gift to help people in pain. If you struggle with chronic pain, stress, or headaches, and traditional methods haven't worked for you - I highly recommend working with Neil.
